What can parents do to help develop the reading literacy skills of
children in Grades 4 to 8?
Much of the research on literacy is focused on beginning readers and not on older children. The Research Works! partnership with the Canadian Centre for Knowledge Mobilisation produced a timely survey of evidence and advice for parents of children in Grades 4 to 8 who struggle with reading. We searched the citations in the systematic review of Tutoring for Literacy to locate studies relevant to these grade levels and to parents as tutors. A summary of online resources was created for parents, and CCKM SPOTLIGHTS featured the four best research studies. Resources for Parents Research Spotlights© 2006 Research-Works! for child literacy.
